Is automotive 80W-90 the same as industrial ISO VG gear oil?
No. Automotive SAE viscosity and industrial ISO viscosity are different classification systems, and their additive requirements can differ. Use the category specified for the equipment.
Can I use a thicker gear oil to reduce noise?
Do not change viscosity only to mask noise. A different grade can affect oil flow, heat and efficiency. Check the gearbox condition and manufacturer recommendation first.
What does EP mean in gear oil?
EP refers to extreme-pressure performance intended to protect loaded gear contacts. The required performance category and material compatibility should still be confirmed.
Can I top up with another brand?
Confirm that the products match in viscosity, performance category and compatibility before mixing. If the existing oil is unknown, share a sample history or label and follow changeover guidance.
